For Authors
At Zora’s Place, we believe books have the power to build bridges, spark conversations, and shift culture. As Evanston’s first Black feminist bookstore, our mission is clear: to center, celebrate, and share the stories of Black women and nonbinary authors.
We’re proud to stock works by authors from many backgrounds, but our shelves hold a special space for local voices—those rooted in Evanston and the Chicagoland area—whose stories reflect the richness, resilience, and joy of our community.
Because our space is small and our curation intentional, we have clear submission guidelines to ensure every title aligns with our mission and values. We only accept self-published books from Black women and nonbinary authors local to Evanston/Chicagoland. We also uphold strong commitments to:
Independent Bookselling – We do not carry books published exclusively through Amazon.
Human Creativity – We do not accept books created with AI-generated text or art.
If this sounds like you, we’d love to learn more about your work. Please review our Author Submission Guidelines and complete our Author Submission Form for consideration. Submissions are reviewed quarterly, and we’ll be in touch if your book is a fit for our shelves.
📚 Your story matters. We can’t wait to hear it.
